We are delighted that Stevie joined us as patron in 2024

Stevie Coutts:

It has been a great pleasure to chair the committee of Art in Penallt from its inception until 2024. It all began with a casual conversation about a newly converted church, art exhibitions & local talent leading, with the help of many people, to the first Art in Penallt in 2011 at Capel Pentwyn & Babington Meadow. In 2019 it moved to Humble by Nature & in 2025 returned to the heart of the village which has proved to be the ideal venue, hosting crowds of visitors and producing an army of voluntary stewards.

It was a delightful surprise to be invited to become a patron and so to continue to be involved. Everyone is extremely proud of what has been achieved over the years with Art in Penallt eventually becoming a regular fixture on the calendar.

Like many people, I have no artistic talent but I admire and appreciate the huge variety of work created by artists and makers. In the course of my career as a French teacher I went to France from time to time, to Paris in particular, where the impressionist collection in the Musée d’Orsay became a special favourite. All art, whether it is a work of literature, a piece of music or a painting, sculpture or pot provokes a reaction. The inspiration for Art in Penallt is the human urge to share the pleasure afforded by beautiful creations which are the artist’s response to the natural world, to ideas and to emotions. So, to be involved in bringing together a community of artists & makers within the natural community of a warm-hearted Welsh village is a great joy.

Long may Art in Penallt continue
