Shirley Griffiths

I am a professional artist and teacher based in the heart of Newport at my studio opposite the city's fine cathedral. I graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Fine art and from Newport university with a PGCE in adult education.

I am currently specialising in Landscapes of local areas and Monmouthshire where I grew up. My preferred medium is oils, but I work with most media, both in my artwork and my teaching.

After working in Adult Education for over 17 years, I set up Art School Wales and have been running successful art courses independently for the last 8 years, even through lockdown via the internet. I believe that anyone can create art and reap the many health benefits that the process provides.

The meditation of painting and drawing helps to raise positivity, self awareness and well being. My style is mostly figurative, but I also like to be experimental, often injecting a little impressionism to create more ‘live’ looking canvasses. I run an online gallery, The Floating Gallery, to showcase my work, in a virtual and peaceful gallery like setting.
