Georgie Dowling

Raised near the coast in rural West Wales, my work is influenced by early memories of beautifully rugged coastlines, secluded beaches and rolling hills. I’m now based in Gloucestershire, just over the road from endless footpaths to explore with my paints. My work is not only about celebrating the beauty in our landscape, but also about the act of making the time to experience our natural world. The continuous momentum of nature and everchanging light on the land and sea is an endless source of inspiration.

The routine of exploring the same paths from my home gives me the opportunity to witness how the land transforms throughout the changes of light and seasons. Each walk is a fresh experience, it's a great reminder of the wonder that the cycles of nature create. Embracing these cycles (and the weather that comes with them!) not only brings opportunity for exciting imagery but is also such a grounding experience. Whilst out with my paints I feel more connected to our natural world than ever. I find comfort in feeling connected to nature’s cycle, in feeling a part of something bigger.

I find myself feeling continuously inspired and moved by the life and beauty of our landscape, it’s become a subconscious act to take the time to study and appreciate the details in my surroundings. Painting in the landscape has completely changed how I see the world around me.
