Ali Edgson

My paintings are inspired by the landscapes of Monmouthshire and especially those of the Usk Valley which look wonderful from the Trellech Plateau – ever changing with the light and seasons.

I try to capture the fleeting moments of days of broken cloud when, with luck, the sunlight dances across the little hills in the valley picking out small patches of farmland and cottages.

On days like these I often notice a building, field or church spire that on another day would blend into the landscape. Early summer brings the profusion of wildflowers in the verges, later on a new palette of colours appear and I am challenged all over again.

I think I shall want to paint this spot for the rest of my life!
